Berea Crime Beat Oct 29

Shoplifting Arrest: On 10/21/2013 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to two shoplifters. Store employees stated that two females attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart containing several items. When they were confronted one of the females fled on foot and one was detained. Officers arrested 24 year old Ashley Elliott of Berea Ky and charged her with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting. The total value of the merchandise was $203.84.

Shoplifting Arrest: On 10/22/2013 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Store employees observed a male subject attempt to leave the store while holding several items. He was detained by store employees and they learned that he had been previously trespassed from the business. Officers arrested 38 year old Joseph Dawson of Berea Ky and charged him with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting and Criminal Trespass. The total value of the merchandise was $23.88.

Theft: On 10/23/2013 a resident in the 100 Block of Bowman Road reported that a window was broken out of his vehicle and items were taken from inside. Estimated Loss: $40.00.

Burglary: On 10/23/2013 a resident in the 100 Block of Glades Road reported that someone entered his residence and took some electronic items. Estimated Loss: $160.00.

Drug Arrest: On 10/24/2013 a traffic stop was conducted on Mount Vernon Road for a minor traffic violation. The Officer observed a subject in the vehicle reaching into his pocket as if he was trying to retrieve something. The Officer asked the subject to step out of the vehicle and located one Oxycodone tablet inside of his pocket. Officers arrested 32 year old Chad Lear of Berea Ky and charged him with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container.

Burglary: On 10/25/2013 a resident in the 1000 Block of Brooklyn Blvd reported that someone entered his residence and took several items. Estimated Loss: $350.00.

Shoplifting Arrest: On 10/25/2013 Officers were called to Tractor Supply in reference to a shoplifter. Store employees stated that a male subject concealed some items under his clothing and then went inside of a dressing room. When Officers arrived he was still inside of the dressing room and that is where they made contact with him. Inside they located merchandise on the floor with the tags removed and located other items concealed inside of the subject’s boots. Officers arrested 25 year old James Miller of Mount Vernon Ky and charged him with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting. The total value of the merchandise was $197.83.

Shoplifting Arrest: On 10/25/2013 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Store employees observed a male subject remove a jacket from the hanger and remove the price tag. He then attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. Officers arrested 22 year old Jessup Thomas of Berea Ky and charged him with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting. The merchandise was valued at $94.97.

Shoplifting Arrest: On 10/25/2013 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Store employees observed a female attempt to leave the store with items that she did not pay for. Officers arrested 28 year old Olivia Pigg of Berea Ky and charged her with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting.

Shoplifting/Drug Arrest: On 10/25/2013 Officers were called to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. Store employees observed a female select a shirt, remove the price tag and then put in inside of her shopping bag. She then concealed other items inside of her purse. The subject then purchased some items but did not pay for the concealed items. She was detained by store employees and when Officers arrived, they located a prescription bottle inside of her purse that contained two Diazepam tablets. The prescription bottle was not for the Diazepam tablets. Officers arrested 58 year old Donna Zehr of Berea Ky and charged her with Theft By Unlawful Taking Shoplifting, Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container.

DUI Arrest: On 10/26/2013 an Officer observed a vehicle traveling south on Richmond Road. The vehicle almost went off the roadway and crossed over the center line several times. A traffic stop was conducted on Forest Street. The driver stated that he had been drinking and the Officer observed open alcohol containers inside of the vehicle. After a short investigation the Officer determined that the driver was under the influence. Officers arrested 57 year old Michael Mastin of Mount Sterling Ky and charged him with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence 1st Offense (DUI) and Possession of Open Alcohol Container in a Motor Vehicle.
